Surya Goes “Ye Kya Kiya Isne?” as Axar Tries to Play Hero and Creates a Mess!

The first India vs. Australia T20I was full of twists and turns. Batting first, Australia put up a massive target of 209.

Josh Inglis was the leading run scorer, scoring 110 runs in just 50 balls, consisting of 8 sixes and 11 fours. He was supported by Steven Smith, who played a second fiddle scoring 52 off 41 balls.

However, it’s the India’s inning that saw some tense moments in the case, especially towards the end.

At one point, India was chasing the score comfortably, with Suryakumar Yadav batting in the 70s. However, batters at the other end kept changing as the fall of wickets was happening pretty quickly, especially after Ishan Kishan departed after scoring a brisk half century.

But things got tricky after Surya made a mishit and handed a catch to Behrendorff, which ended his innings at 80 runs off 42 balls. It was then Rinku Singh who took the charge, and kept India in a strong position in chase of the competitive total.

However, as they say in cricket, things don’t take long to change. And it did for India at this point.

Once Tilak Verma departed for just 12 runs off 10 balls, out walked Axar Patel. We all know he can bat well, but today probably wasn’t his day.

He went wicketless earlier in the evening, though he gave away only 32 runs in his 4-over spell, which is pretty economical if you consider the total Australia eventually manage to post.

However, his batting today was just not clicking right from the start. Coming out to bat after Surya’s wicket when India was almost there with a score of 194-5, Axar’s task was clearly cut out.

He just had to support Rinku Singh at the other end, who was playing beautifully and hitting all the right areas. But he failed to rotate the strike much, with his score being just 2 runs off 5 balls.

There was still nothing to worry about though. As India needed just 2 runs to win with 4 balls remaining. The wise thing to do here was to just take a single.

However, Axar went for the glory hit, trying to go aerial and hit a winning boundary. It landed in a mishit and he was caught by the bowler!

This left everyone shocked in the dressing room, especially Suryakumar Yadav, who was captaining India for the first time. While what he said couldn’t be perfectly made out, but we feel he said something along the lines of “Ye Kya Kiya Isne?”.

His reaction was definitely understandable, as the batsman to follow Axar was Ravi Bishnoi. While India needed just 2 runs off 3 balls here, a bowler at strike playing his first ball wasn’t the ideal situation India wanted to be in.

This proved right as Bishnoi couldn’t connect his first ball and just went for the run. Rinku Singh managed to escape a run out at the striker end, but Bishnoi got run out at the non-striker end.

Now India needed 2 runs off just 2 balls, which was the tensest situation for India in the match. But the saving grace was that Rinku Singh was finally back on strike.

He hit the second last ball of the match in a small gap, and they tried running for two. However, we again saw a run out here, but thankfully the batter to get out was Arshdeep Singh at the non-striker end.

India lost 3 wickets in 3 balls here, and stakes were high for Axar Patel though he wasn’t involved in the match at this point of the time. After all, if India loses from this point, he might get a lot of blame for playing that irresponsible shot when he was just supposed to take a single and give the strike back to Rinku.

Anyway, needing a single off the final ball, the winning shot finally came off Rinku Singh’s bat. Sean Abbot, who bowled almost a perfect over, bowled right in the slot, allowing Rinku to go big, go aerial, and hit a winning 6!

Surya was finally relieved, and so was Axar and the rest of the players in the Indian dressing room. Suryakumar Yadav turned out a winning captain in his first match as the captain of the Indian side.
